On Easter Sunday, Seabirds-and-Seals once again took part in the annual Da Voar Redd Up—the UK’s most successful community litter-picking event. We were joined by local friends who kindly gave up part of their holiday to support the clean-up alongside The Noss Boat Team. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved—your community spirit is truly appreciated!
This year, we were once again allocated Gulberwick Beach, a spot we know well and care deeply about. Together, we filled 14 green bags of debris and removed a significant amount of rope, plastic, fabric, and even discarded shoes—a reminder of the marine pollution that too often reaches our coastline.
Sadly, much of this waste is familiar to us. Throughout our tour season, we regularly come across marine litter, particularly rope and plastic, during our wildlife cruises. When we do, we remove it and ensure it’s disposed of responsibly once ashore.
As a business rooted in Shetland and run by people born and raised here, we’ve been involved in Da Voar Redd Up since childhood. It’s more than an annual event—it’s a meaningful tradition that reflects our ongoing commitment to protecting Shetland’s natural environment and marine wildlife.
We feel a real sense of pride and responsibility in helping to keep our local beaches and coastlines clean, and we’re grateful to be part of such a proactive, community-led initiative. Every bag filled is a step toward a healthier, safer marine environment—for wildlife, for visitors, and for future generations.
