Exciting things are happening in Shetland as two fantastic local businesses—Uphouse Crafts and Seabirds-and-Seals—come together to create something truly special for wildlife lovers. This collaboration combines creative artistry with the wonders of nature, bringing a unique and meaningful product to those who cherish Shetland’s incredible wildlife.
Introducing the Exclusive Gannet Key Ring
A beautiful new Gannet key ring is on its way, featuring an original Uphouse Crafts drawing inspired by a stunning Seabirds-and-Seals photograph. This key ring will be a must-have for seabird enthusiasts and visitors looking to take home a piece of Shetland’s wildlife magic. After talk between the two businesses, it was decided that after creating the gannet keyring – the Seabird, it would only seem fitting to do a Seal keyring too. Both will be available as keyrings exclusive to Seabirds-and-Seals and Uphouse Crafts. The below shows a mock up of both the Gannet and Seals, which will be available in April to purchase from:
More Wildlife-Inspired Designs
Alongside the new Gannet and Seal key ring, Uphouse Crafts has also created new designs featuring Shetland’s most beloved wildlife. On your next Noss Boat Tour, you can find key rings of Puffins, Otters, and Orcas, including the adorable new ‘Puffin Along’ and ‘Smooching Puffins’ designs.
Supporting Local, Celebrating Shetland
This collaboration is a perfect example of how local businesses can support one another, bringing Shetland’s natural beauty to life in creative and inspiring ways. Whether you’re looking for a memorable keepsake or planning an unforgettable wildlife adventure, Uphouse Crafts and Seabirds-and-Seals have something special for you.
About Uphouse Crafts & The Owner
The local business is operated by Andrea Leask. She first started sewing to make clothes for her son, and her hobby then turned into a full-time job when she started Uphouse Crafts in 2019. When her son was a toddler, she began making the following items.
The more she made for him, the more she learned and became hooked on sewing. Andrea says it gave her a sense of purpose at a time when she wasn’t sure who she was other than a ‘mum’.
In 2019, she decided to start Uphouse Crafts so she could work from home. Andrea has lived in Shetland all her life, except for four years when she was at University in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. To Andrea, Shetland is family and home, it is also a unique place where the accent is distinctive, the way of life is more relaxed, and the landscape is stunning.
Shetland influences Andrea’s choices of fabric as she loves to showcase all the things that make our beautiful island unique. Her work features puffins, seals, whales and nautical themes, but she also has cheerful, colourful prints. She offers a range of purses, wallets, and bags made with Shetland Wool Tweed. She also makes handknitted Shetland Fair Isle purses.
In 2024, she rediscovered a love of drawing and has now introduced a range of hand-drawn puffins, Shetland landscapes, and boats. Her family background in fishing has influenced her love of drawing fishing boats of all shapes and sizes.

This exciting partnership is a testament to Shetland’s thriving local business community. We encourage everyone to support this collaboration and continue championing local businesses—because when we work together, everyone benefits!
